Storm still giving forecasters headaches |

What a storm to forecast! Timing of the arrival of precipitation was on but due to very dry air at the surface rain has yet to reach the ground north of the Mass Turnpike. As a result, it is now six hours past the original forecasted timing of precipitation and temperatures have risen out ahead of the storm above freezing. Keene currently sits at 37 degrees. So the freezing rain potential is gone for this storm. Rain, heavy at times will still reach Keene later today and make for a soggy Turkey Day. Total rainfall has been downgraded to just a quarter to half an inch however in heavy downpours, locallized poor-drainage street flooding is still possible.
Rain should end later this evening.
One major thing that the timing of the storm has changed are the temperatures in the long term. The earlier arrival of the storm will allow a strong Pacific Jet to ride behind it, bringing in temperatures 5 - 10 degrees above normal for the next 5 days. After that, a potentially significant storm will cross the region around mid week next week, followed by an arctic blast from the west. Then, the pieces could be in place for our first real snow storm come mid December.
I'll have a forecast for the next 7 days out this evening. But right now, everyone, have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
