A warm front currently oriented from north to south across Maine will allow one last surge of summer heat into the region. Highs will reach the upper 80's in central New England to the low to mid 90's across southern New England this afternoon.
In Keene, count on the 90 degree mark to be reached. NWS point is currently forecasting 91.
Temperatures in the mid 80's will return on Saturday.
Thunderstorms will threaten the region tomorrow and on Sunday as a cold front currently in the midwest moves slowly east. A significant amount of moisture is associated with this frontal boundary, and the possibility exists for locally heavy rainfall this weekend.
Temperatures will cool off for the majority of next week, with highs around 70 through next Friday. PNA neutral, NAO neutral, and an AO going negative will mean the first real arctic airmass of the season reaching the upper plains by the latter half of next week. The GFS is indicating 850mb temperatures of 0C reaching northern Illinois with a pocket of -10C temperatures in southern Canada. This airmass will moderate as it moves east, but still will give New England highs in the 50's and 60's and lows in the 20's and 30's.
